BIC (Business Information Center)

The Stockton Boulevard Business Information Center (BIC) is a one-stop location for information and technical assistance designed to help entrepreneurs start, operate, and grow their companies.

The BIC offers classes and seminars on a variety of business topics, e.g. Marketing, Financing Options for Small Business, Pre-Business Seminars, Incorporation, Government Procurement, Franchising Opportunities, and Taxes for Small Businesses. There is a nominal $35 fee for some of the seminars but many are provided at no cost to the participant.

The BIC offers free business consultation through SCORE, and has a small Business Library and business resources.

Job LINK

Job Talks are offered throughout the county for CalWORKs Welfare to Work participants. Job Talks are designed to connect employers with potential employees. Job Talk workshops offer referrals to  current job openings, provide one-on-one job search assistance and give local employers the opportunity to personally speak to job seekers about current openings.

Subsidized Employment

In collaboration with the Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA), the Subsidized Employment/On-the-Job Training (OJT) program provides a wage reimbursement of up to 100% to employers for hiring a CalWORKs Welfare to Work participant and training them in a new job. In addition, businesses may be eligible for tax credits offered by the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program (WOTC)

Work Experience

The CWEX Program actively markets and recruits employers in the region to provide real-world work experience for pre-screened CalWORKs Welfare to Work participants. The CWEX Program is always looking for training/employments opportunities in a wide variety of industries within the private and public sectors as well as non-profit agencies.
